1. The Chef’s Table
The menu at The Chef’s Table in Rocklin is constantly changing, which is a testament to their dedication to adapting the freshest selection from local farms. The Chef’s Table believes in using “local ingredients, carefully handled, lovingly prepared and joyfully served to you for your culinary enjoyment.” And they do just that! Don’t believe us? 2. Ella Dining Room & Bar
Ella Dining Room & Bar offers an elegant and romantic culinary experience in the heart of downtown Sacramento. Their educated menu proves their dedication to promoting local and sustainable growers, farmers, ranchers and artisans. Whether you are stopping by for lunch, dinner, or their weekday happy hour from 3–6 p.m., you will be impressed by the fresh and flavorful quality of your dishes and drinks.
3. Farmer’s Kitchen Cafe
The Farmer’s Kitchen Cafe is nestled within Natural Food Works, a natural grocery store in Davis. This nature-focused cafe offers a simple menu packed with healthy ingredients from local sources. Start with their Bioregional Salad, featuring everything local and organic growing in the area at that very moment, including local asparagus, organic red onions, organic strawberries, kiwi, organic apples and much more!
4. The Farm Table
Head to The Farm Table in Placerville where you’ll find an ever-changing menu focused on the farmstead arts of preservation and whole harvest cookery. After you sit down with an exceptional meal, you can even take home some house-made sausages and charcuterie, pickled seasonal vegetables, picnic provisions, and local or imported beer and wine, from their in-house market.
5. Farmhaus Fresh
Take a seat out on Farmhaus Fresh’s amazing outdoor patio and enjoy a plate comprised of farm-fresh ingredients. Check out their Farm Bowl with chicken, black beans, brown rice, cabbage, asparagus, carrot, black olive, radish, cilantro, avocado, fennel and chipotle sauce! This Granite Bay gem is simply a charming and high-quality farm-to-fork restaurant. Sample a couple of plates and drinks during their happy hour Tuesdays through Saturdays from 3–5 p.m.
6. Federalist Public House & Beer Garden
Federalist Public House & Beer Garden is a unique artisan pizza spot serving local brews and a menu with an intense farm-to-fork emphasis. Their interior is as inventive as their pies, as the building is made out of shipping containers and includes a bocce court for diners to enjoy before, during or after their meal. Visit this laid-back atmosphere with long wooden tables and enjoy one of their creations, like The Capitol with crushed tomato, mozzarella, cremini mushrooms, pancetta and oregano.
7. Formoli’s Bistro
Formoli’s Bistro sources their New American food from local California farmers and strives to create unique menus including fresh seasonal ingredients. Their menu also incorporates European influences, drawing inspiration from France, Spain and Italy. Do not miss their happy hour happening Tuesdays through Fridays from 5–7 p.m. and Sundays from 11:30 a.m.–2 p.m., where you can sample some of their small plates and sip on a cocktail, glass of wine, or beer!
8. Grange Restaurant and Bar
Tucked inside The Citizen Hotel in downtown Sacramento lies the beloved Grange Restaurant and Bar, serving dishes comprised of ingredients straight from farms in Sacramento and Yolo Counties. Be sure not to miss Grange’s “Pastured & Raised Entrees,” such as their Grilled Squash Sandwich featuring balsamic aioli, cherry tomato jam, and mozzarella on ciabatta, served with salt and pepper chips.
9. Garden to Grill
In addition to Garden to Grill’s healthy and locally sourced plant-based foods, they have an extensive gluten-free bakery case, plenty of craft beers and a great selection of organic wines. While you cannot go wrong with anything on their menus, you must try their famous California Burger, named one of the Top 21 Burgers in America by Buzzfeed! This juicy burger includes a house-made risotto sunflower seed patty, tempeh bacon, avocado, shredded romaine, tomato, pickles, red onion, and house-made 1000 island, all on a seeded bun.
10. Hock Farm Craft & Provisions
Hock Farm Craft & Provisions was named after the historic Sutter Hock Farm, which was the first large-scale agricultural settlement in Northern California. This modern restaurant pays homage to the farm’s rich history, and aims to further the farm-to-fork movement in the present day with their constantly changing menus. Get the freshest of the fresh by asking about the daily pizza, which will feature that day’s selection of seasonal ingredients.
11. Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Co.
Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Co. celebrates both the bountiful harvest of the state of California and the rich history of Sacramento. After one look at their sophisticated menus and refreshing interior, it’s quite clear that Hook & Ladder embraces local farms, ranches, breweries and wineries in both their kitchen and their bar. Start things off with their light Green Goddess Hummus and a handcrafted cocktail and enjoy a warm afternoon on Hook & Ladder’s outdoor patio!
12. The Kitchen Restaurant
Believe it or not, the founders of The Kitchen Restaurant were among the first to emphasize farm-to-fork dining in the Sacramento region when they opened for business over 20 years ago. Ever since, The Kitchen has been building relationships with and supporting local farmers, growers, ranchers and artisans through the way they have done business. With several national awards under their belt, including the AAA Five Diamond Award five years in a row, this is the ultimate destination for farm-fresh fine dining in the city.
Localis has an inspiring focus on hyper-seasonal food, filled with big flavors, and served in their welcoming atmosphere. This Midtown gem uses only ingredients at the height of expression, complemented by unique flavors and amazing proteins. 14. Lola’s Lounge
Lola’s Lounge in Elk Grove is a celebration of Latin cuisine, featuring Spanish, Cuban and Puerto Rican fare in their fine casual atmosphere. With a rotating menu reflecting the ever-changing cultures in Latin America, Lola’s incorporates as many local products as possible. Take a seat at this “de finca a mesa” — or farm-to-table — restaurant.
15. Metro Kitchen + Drinkery
Whether you want a simple cold-pressed juice or an entire meal, Metro Kitchen + Drinkery is the place to go. They serve seasonal breakfast, lunch and evening menus in addition to their cold-pressed juices, coffee and bar drinks. As can be expected at a shop with fresh juices, Metro Kitchen + Drinkery uses local, sustainable and organic ingredients from farmers they know and partners they believe in. Mother is a vegetarian restaurant that celebrates all the wonderful produce that grows in the Sacramento valley. Their menu is bursting with (meatless) flavor, inspired by Southern American cooking through and through. Try their Farro & Peach & Burrata Salad with arugula and lemon pepper for a refreshing start to your meal.
17. Mulvaney’s B & L
Relax on Mulvaney’s B & L amazing outdoor patio and enjoy exceptional food, drinks and service at this fine dining restaurant. Mulvaney’s relationship with their food and where it comes from is the driving force of ther business, which means their menus change on a daily basis to reflect an emphasis on seasonality. As Chef Patrick Mulvaney says, “Whatever comes in the front door goes on your plate.” With the restaurant’s local focus, this is great news.
18. The Red Rabbit
The Red Rabbit has a hyper-focus on local ingredients, from their artisan cocktails to their farm-to-table food, and everything in between. Try something different with their vegan mushroom curry, made with mushrooms, fingerling potatoes, stewed tomatoes, coconut milk, onions, garlic, ginger, curry, peas and tri-color organic quinoa. This exceptional eatery offers an eclectic and inviting atmosphere located in the heart of activity in Midtown.
TableVine provides an oasis in the city — with their vineyard decor, amazing wine selection and incredibly fresh menu — located near the activity of downtown on the south side of Capitol Park. Their menu is subject to change daily, but you will always find sophistication and ingredients straight from the farm. Be sure to pair your selection with one of their incredible wines!
